Royal Wulff
Royal Wulff
Richard used Duco cement, slightly thinned with acetone,
instead of head cement. He, like most tiers, loops the
thread around the base of each split calf tail wing a
few times, before winding the hackles. Richard uses two
hackles per Royal Wulff. He winds one hackle first and then
the other, rather than winding both hackles at once.
I also noticed Richard ties the body with just one
peacock fiber. After starting at the tail, he winds
that single peacock fiber forward a bit, ties in two
strands of red floss, and then winds the floss
over top the peacock strand, thereby forcing the peacock
strand forward as he winds the floss. Then he tied
off the floss and finished winding the peacock herl.
This body-tying technique struck me as an organized
and well thought sequence of events.
