| Before you wind the deer hair clump onto the shank,

| loop the thread around the deer hair twice--BEFORE winding
|
| the thread over the shank. This helps to pull the hair together
|
| into a tight clump on top of the hook, rather than flattening out
|
| and wrapping around the shank.
