When I first met Tom he told me he never tied flies. Then he said he tied a few but he wasn't any good at it. Then he said he gave up tying flies because it made more sense to concentrate on making rods, and to get his flies from guys like Al Troth. And then he showed me these elegantly tied and stunningly beautiful Thunder Creek Minnows--that he tied himself. I should have known better.
