Yes, sure. I used to do just that....make lots of holes.
Other boats I have made (Buffalo Boat, Sharptail, Beavertail) the presence or absence of a rear-seated
passenger made a big difference in the way the boat
balanced up. With those boats, at least two holes where
a must: one for each situation (rear-seated yes, rear-seated
no).
But the Honky Dory is wide and stable. So it works
well no matter where you put the oars. So put them
where it is most comfortable for you. Sit in the boat.
Put you wife on the front seat (inside your shop).
Work the oars. Put the holes as far forward as you can
without punching the front passenger in the back as
you row. That's how I do it.
