>Hey guys, kudos to this forum, its a godsend for the backyard driftboat builder. My question is this.I,ve heard that a lot of builders use exterior acrylic latex paint on their hulls rather than expensive marine paints.Do you Know if the latex will bond to properly prepared (scuffed) epoxy resin?
At the Paint Pot ( the local paint store ) in Bozeman you can't buy
high quality exterior grade acrylic latex in smaller quantities than a gallon, which
is enough paint for 2 boats. So that effects price calculations some.
I like to use Petitt Poly Poxy paints (two quarts per boat is usually enough).
I don't recomend them over
other marine paints. The Petitt paints are about the only paint I've
ever used, so I'm not qualified to make any comparisons.
I do like it, because It isn't expensive. It sprays well (even with the
low pressure spray pots you get at the rental shops) and you *can*
ush it on, if you have to.
To
ush on Petitt paint you do have to dip the
ush in a can of
reducer, and then into the paint, for each each stroke. And you have
to stroke quickly and gracefully. You only get one or two shots at it.
But you can do it. So it's a tough, versatile paint.
