This is a needle fly. The entire thing is made on a #10 beading needle, slid off the needle and then attached to a hook as a last step. What good is it? Good question. Maybe not much.

But I do like tying on the needle. It's easier when the hook isn't constantly in the way. This one does have a small tungsten bead buried in the thorax area. It's about a #14 fly.
