Thanks for the post. I will kept bookmarked.
Hoping my cast comes off tomorrow (surgical repair of torn tendon which happened in February, completely ruining any plans to work on the boat and or rowing this year) and can get back working on my shop. It's first before the boat work.
Thanks Workman's Comp for delaying the surgical repair so long. But since the initial MRI was delay

Looking really good. I don't know if I'll ever get started at this rate. Something ALWAYS seems to come up. This week was a doozie with my elderly mother having a heart attack. Ugh. She is well on her way to recovery.
Keep on plugging away and please continue to post as many pictures as you can.

Yep. I miss having an easy way to make d size plots. I was a guinea pig for autodesk in the 80's. Cad manager for years before changing careers. Loved drawing with cad.

I miss the entire region and life style. I know I've made a difference in thousands of lives since changing careers but I really miss the area. The idea of me becoming a paramedic was to go back to the area and become a Ranger/Medic. Life happened.

I appreciate the advice and particularly the time frame example.
Having grown up in the "mountains" West Virginia, I was in awe of the Rockies once I made it to Denver for military training in the late 80's. I ended up in Denver after the military and later The Jackson area. There hasn't been a night that had gone by since I left in the fall of 94 that I haven't dr

Once off light duty, I will have 4 days a week to build. However, at least 2 hrs a day will be spent cycling as that's my sole exercise right now and I lost a LOT of weight doing it. That won't start until the roads are clear and the weather is approaching 30+ degrees though.

Hopefully I can make steady progress. We are still heading west regardless. I spent 3 Years kayaking the whitewater in the Jackson area. I can always take my whitewater boat and my road bike for some excellent bicycling.
I plan to take lots of pics during the build and blog it on my lumberjocks page which I'll link to here.

Both the wife and I put in for vacation time today. We will take our first true vacation ever (18 years together) this summer. The goal is to have the boat completed by June. Planning to head to Jackson Wyoming (tentatively but may end up Montana) the last week of June/first week of July.
This is as lofty goal for sure. However, once off light duty at work, I will return to a schedule that wil

Thanks. Looks like I need to order the rotary cutter.
Forgive me about the Green part. Just didn't want to wait around looking for it turn the color green before I cut. Lol

For the total newbie here, can you elaborate on both the plastic backer board and cutting when green?

I learned that the hard way at Lumberjocks.com
At the stage your at do you think the table is necessary? As opposed to using the floor? Had hoped to finish my floor this weekend and begin the table. However, things came up and neither was accomplished. The last section of my floor rebuild requires me to disconnect and remove my furnace so I can lay the last bit of pressure treated slee

Thanks 280guy.
This issue with the pictures not showing up are mostly due to you moving/changing folders on photobucket.com. When you provide a "link" to a forum, it's not dynamic. Meaning, the hosting site address isn't automatically updated to the forums where you have displayed your pics. Thus, the link is "broken" once you move things around.

Looking good!
Question about the table. What grade plywood is recommended for the table surface? Dimensions? Those that have built before, what size table worked well for you and if you had to do it again, what would you specify on your table?
Thanks,

Forgive me. Really not trying to hijack the thread. I REALLY want to start my Freestone build. If you want to see a seriously sad story (mine), check this out. Please, DON'T try to enlighten me on the pros and cons of what has happened. As you will see from the forum post, it's been done over and over.

Alas another has passed me by. After a disaster to my shop, I've still not recovered and thus have not started building. Hopefully it gives you some extra encouragement knowing that you are WAY ahead of me at this point. I've gathered materials and luckily those were not damaged when my truck drove through my shop without me.
Please keep posting your progress.

Thanks Sandy.
Shipping is FREE!!!!!
Just kidding. Driving distance for me. In fact, picking up okoume ply on the way home! Will make for an all day affair but worth it. In the ole truck, about $60 in gas.

By calling the 800-630-9257, I received a quote of $44.50 per sheet of 4'–8'–3/4". 1/2" = $35.
Additionally she stated they are trying to keep "Common", sizes in stock. As of today for example, if they have several dozen of both on hand. I know folks have complained of issues contacting them so hopefully this is helpful.

So excited.
Sorry Sandy, I purchased from Jason. However, the advice you have posted has played a huge role. Specifically stitch and glue versus framed. This has been a long time in coming but life has dictated that I wait until now to start my build. I chose Jason's version for the sheer beauty of his finished products. I love to woodwork and hopeful I can produce something that I would

Haven't been here in awhile and still haven't started a boat but getting the bug again.
How many sheets of Plascore would be required for a Honky Dory if building BOTH the sides and bottom with this material? Sorry if this specifically has been covered before but I haven't been able to find this answer on the forum.
Thanks,

While not exactly the setup you described, I did have a Skykomish Sunrise by Dave Scadden. Loved it. Only true downfall is the solo aspect. Rated for Class IV and breaks down to be compact, it would end taking up the entire cargo space in my Subaru. Never had it on greater than Class III. Fun.

Plan on ordering book soon.
Incidentally, have a local hard wood sawyer. Asked about Ash this week. He replied "A good supply of 4/4 @$2.50 and lots of 6/4 @$3.00. Discounts apply." Not too bad. Just wish I hadn't sold my tablesaw, jointer and planner. But like the old joke says, "it was only once and I needed the money."

I appreciate the advice and am thrilled to hear from those with whitewater experience. I have paddled lots of kayak designs and over the years have become fond of strong, well defined eddy lines. That is because I wanted to get vertical. Stern squirts, bow squirts, screw-ups and stalls are a blast. However I don't anticipate enjoying those moves in these boats!
I, like so many other that

Good to know.
Today, I am leaning towards a framed boat with the option of decking for my whitewater use. That doesn't mean that tomorrow I won't lean the other way. Rather enjoying the research aspect of this. Lots of info online if you are willing to take the time. Right now, time is all I have. Can't sink any money into building just yet. Other projects need completed first.

We used to live in Bozeman. I worked for AMR. Originally from WV, I ended up in Jackson after the military. It's where I started kayaking. Left to go to school with the intent of returning out west as a paramedic, hopefully as a ranger. Second wife, kids and a few dogs later, we are in the midwest where we call it home now. (sadly). Bozeman didn't work out for us. I loved it but the ove
