I believe that a few American car manufacturer's also thought that wood was beautiful and came up with fake wood grain. There's another challenge for you Sandy. Honeycomb core with wood grain! :<)

Exactly, me too. Hence my desire to find out what it would cost to build one, especially since the "mold" is built. That's why I like the Beefalo. I just wanted to make sure we were taling about the same boat.
I have one of those pontoon boats, but I use it on lakes and it works very well there.
Do you remember those orange, molded plastic one-person kids boats? I watche

I am presuming that we are calling your newest build a Beefalo. I really like the lines and the concept and was wondering what it would cost to build a second one. Are you using the "honeycomb core" for your 6" of foam or will you something like house foam insulation?

Sandy, the first transistor cost a million dollars and the second one nineteen cents. What would a second mini-buffalo boat cost? for materials? I think you are on the right track, the boat is looking great. You have paid a lot of dues, now you get the benefits.
Keep up the good work.

This video brings back great memories! As I get older the memory issue is often frustrating, however I still remember every rapid on the Middle Fork! It is a remarkable place that you will always remember if you get an opportunity to visit!
thanks for sharing.

Larry, check out this link. http://feathercraft.com/kayaks/traditional/index.php It could been one of the Feathercraft kayaks. Not cheap, but good. They also have a series of other water craft.

Larry the project is looking good. I really appreciate your updating and documenting the build. I am excited to hear how it performs.

Check this one out on Wooden Boat build and repair forum! Talk about boat building! Consider too that the main guy has to work in French with folks that speak both French and Vietnamese, then he annotates the build in English! It is great reading! We think that epoxy is expensive for a drift boat build, consider that this vessel has multiple coats of glass and epoxy!

Here's Brad's published email address. He's the guy the shared the technique at Wooden Boat People. He has a great blog on his current build. It's not stitch and glue, it's actually a recreation of the "Edith" originally built by Emery Kolb. Check it out!

Brad Dimock uses this technique to smooth out his epoxy. http://www.woodenboatpeople.com/profiles/blogs/bottom-glassing
I have included a link to the Wooden Boat People site where he shows it being done on a drift boat.
Good Luck

Hey Mr. Plastic Fantastic. I was reading a series of posts about stiffening cars for better handling by injecting foam into the pillars. I followed the links and found some info on foam that can be either injected into a cavity or laminated onto an epoxy substrate. It is designed for marine applications. I immediately thought about your new boat. I was wondering if you have a plascore botto

Sandy, I have done some research on the epoxy floor paint. It is designed to go on a surface that doesn't flex or move. So while durable they offer the potential to crack and open opportunities for water to enter. On a stitch and glue boat, encapsulated with epoxy it may not be as big a problem as with frame construction. It would be an interesting test however.

Thank you Sandy. This is an interesting design, I see that the hull has more than one plane. It would be interesting to read about the construction details and how it handled. I also wonder if there was a hard chine where the side met the bottom and how it worked in the big water. Thanks for showing to us.
It only goes to show a couple of things. 1. There are many ways to accomplish

Hey you could be ready for a January or February launch! I hear the Grand Canyon is not too crowded at that time of year!
I have to agree with Sandy, your boat looks great. Several weeks ago you were looking for ideas on supporting the deck. How did you decide to do it?

To clarify Sandy's initial comment on the included report, it was done by a Finish Company VTT but paid for by their government. The report was done to provide information to the Finish boat building industry, which builds many fishing vessels. The concepts and testing of the various materials and how different layups compare was interesting and in my mind backs up the idea of laminating f

Larry, how would a tube work in your application. A carbon fiber sock laminated over a wood or plastic tube perhaps? After revisiting your pictures I am also wondering about the same tube shape with a rabbet the width of the Plascore epoxy it to the Plascore? Just throwing out some ideas. The boat is looking great and I enjoy and also really appreciate your photos and documentation. I like y

We should keep such reminders, both figurative and literal in our lives. How many times would such a visual reminder stopped a few mistakes. But that being said we might want to consider having a stop light with "go, caution and stop" also available. If man hadn't been impetuous back many centuries ago we would have any boats to talk and write about on these pages. I guess we n

Not yet, as an unemployed student extra money for boating is hard to find. Craigslist has been my friend however. I have sold enough old, hoarded stuff to buy paint this weekend. So I hope to try it soon and post some pictures.

You mentioned you were interested in a two-part auto type finish. I started a discussion on September 16th that might be of interest to you. Search by date, my name or scroll back to that date and see if it fits your needs. There was also some discussion on the Wooden Boat People site as well. Plenty of opinions to consider.

Thank you for the thorough details. Your ability to translate the hull design and how it operates is outstanding and helpful. I think that you are building an intriguing boat, one that will open some eyes and improve the breed. I for one appreciate that you are taking the time to share these details. How many hours do you have in your build and how many more do you estimate it will take to c

I really appreciate your pictures, web site and comments on your build. I think the lines of your newest boat look great! Are there any Briggs boats around to compare with for a hull line comparison? If you have a straight on side shot perhaps I could manipulate it in Photoshop against a picture of a Briggs style boat of similar length and see how they compare. It appears that you have faired
