Old Beavertail

When I first saw this boat ad on Facebook I thought it was for an old MRBoats Sharptail, which is a boat I don't build anymore.

But it's not. It's an early Beavertail. The ad says it was made in 1987 but '85 was the last year I made boats for sale. That makes it 34 or 35 years old (I think this one's a 1984 boat). It needs refinishing but hell. It's still a good boat.

RE> refinishing. I saw a youtube video about making a walnut chip blaster with a pistol grip air hose. File a slot in the top of the tube of an air nozzle and duct tape an inverted bottle on top, with the metal tube poked into a horizontal hole in the spout of the bottle. Fill the bottle with walnut hull chips (from the paint store or Harbor Freight) and it works like a not-too-aggressive sand blaster. Removes paint but doesn't dig into the wood or underlying fiberglass.

Blast most of the paint off. Then sand off the rest. Patch it up with epoxy goo or even a bit of glass here and there and then paint again.
