Jesse's Buffalo Boat

I got this photo in my email this morning from a guy named Jesse:

...with the following message:
Just did our first float with the buffalo boat we built this spring. She preformed great on a 8 mile float. We really love the design. Thanks for designing and making these plans!

Thank you Jesse. I wish more would send me photos of what they built.

Jesse, Nice boat. What is the length of your oars as they look substantial. Oars will be one of my next investments and I'm curious for feedback.

Very nice, Jesse. I just did my 1st extended float recently too!

Jesse told me those are 8-1/2' foot oars. He also said he was going to make some from scratch at some point. 9' footers are too big for the BBoat. You can use them. I have a thousand times. But 8.5 is more like it. I've never rowed anything with 8' foot oars ever, fwiw. Including my Dayak, which probably would row well with 8' foot oars. But 8.5 is as small as I own.

Looks about the right length to me but I'm an amateur. What do you and Jesse think?

I think Jesse's not a forum guy. I like 8.5 for the BBoat. I haven't tried shorter but I haven't been tempted to either. Not at what oars cost these days.

So it seems that 8.5 and 9 will work with all three of your boats?

Yes indeed. But for just a 6" inch difference it makes a surprising difference.
I like 8.5 in Dayak (wish I could try just 8' footers) Buffalo Boat and Beavertail.

I prefer 9' footers for the 15' foot HD

If I ever get my 17' foot decked boat done I'll try it with 10' footers. I have some Smoker Lights ten feet long, that I bought 10 years ago and never used. Well. Haven't used much.

I'v been going to some local lakes recently and it is surprising how poorly my 6 footers due in open water, lol. Takes a bit of doin to get somewhere.
