Do you keep throwing flies after hard frosts? Do hatches continue to happen after cold weather begins, say on sunny days above freezing? Interesting, before taking up the fly rod I never paid attention to such things.

We get Blue Winged Olive hatches now, and clear into freezeup.

Streamer fishing lasts as long as any open water still exists.

The bugs are hatching now. Up on the Missouri in particular.

There are plenty of bugs that live underwater during the winter, a good time to fish nymphs and wet flies. I will post two links to more info on bugs, when they hatch and such:

http://www.troutnut.com/hatches, this one has 5400 images, not always as good as Sandy's but certainly helpful. There is a lot going on that we never see and take for granted. Fly fishing opens your eyes to many things.
