Turkey day's eve fly tying

Ducktail PMD

#20 light wire scud hook
Dyed olive-yellow Duck flank -- wings and abdomen/tail
Gray Senyo Laser Dub -- surrounding the duck flank wing
Olive Zelon -- right hackle underneath (like a bow tie on bottom)
The (tip only) of the abdomen/tail has a micro-drop of fabric cement rolled onto the end with a needle, to make it come to a sharp point. I doubt that matters to the fish but it does make a better photograph.

They do land gently and always upright, float well, cast well and dry off quickly. Catch fish too. I've been polishing this one for at least a decade now. I've fished it a lot.



I can't see well enough to tie these on anymore. Not without magnifiers. But I still like tying them, with 4x jeweler's goggles.

What does it imitate.

The photo of the male above is interesting because it has no tail fibers. The tails break off frequently during the eclosion process (shedding the skin, when morphing from nymph to sub-imago). So match-the-hatch fanatics who insist on tail fibers in their fly patterns are prolabally imagining it.
