It's a long story but I'm in the process of photographing someone else's fly collection. This is an Al Troth Bullhead. Tied by Al himself. I have a bunch more Al Troth flies to photograph yet. I might tack a few more photos onto this thread as I make them. Al's best known fly was the (Troth) Elk Hair Caddis. That's a fly that will probably still be in fly shops a century from now. If there are fly shops in a century from now.

Being new to flies I don't recognize what it is supposed to be but I assume a bullhead catfish?

I think it's a quirky name for a Sculpin, which kinda sorta looks like a miniature bullhead catfish. Al was a cool guy. In Montana our most celebrated tiers were Frans Pott George Grant Pat Barnes and Al Troth. And Dan Bailey too I guess.

Well I guess if I look at it as art then I find it very nice. I'm in an area where the Mop (16) over a midge (18-22) is king and they are PLAIN.
