Kevlar and glass

Kevlar and glass

It's me again.

I am ready to do the botom of my boat. (sides are glassed) I am putting a 5 oz. layer of kevlar on the bottom of the boat. I was wondering if I should then cover the kevlar with one or two layers of 10.5 oz. glass. Is there any reason to go with two layers? Or will that just be unnecessary weight?

I'm going to dodge that question, slightly.
Make sure the kevlar wraps around the chine at least 1-2"
Have a resin roller on hand. You cannot saturate kevlar
with just a drywall trowel, as you can with glass fa
ic.
Get a roller from Raka, if you don't have one.
Make sure you've got enough fa
ic to finish the boat.
You can always put more glass on later. Make sure you
have AT LEAST 2 layers of tape over the chine (and over
the slightly overlapped kevlar).
