Hello Simon:
I just got back into town. Been on vacation.
RE: layers. The instructions recomend two layers
of 10oz on the outside bottom, and one layer every
where else, except the chine.
If both bottom layers overlap the chine by an inch or so,
and if the the outside-side layer overlaps the chine,
in the other direction, then you already have 3 layers
over the chine. Then use fiberglass tape to add 3 more.
The easiest way to do this is to buy one roll of 3-1/2"
tape and one roll of 6" tape. But you can do it all with
3-1/2" tape, by staggering tape, with successive layers
shifted sideways 1" or so, this way and then that.
This tape layering process will build up the chine area
so it is about 1/8" thicker than the sides, leaving a
slight cavity above the taped area. You can ignore this.
It doesn't matter. If you are making an opaque paint finish,
you can also fair this transition with a mixture of
resin and microballoons, prior to painting.
